Melissa Zigler

Melissa is our Lead Veterinary Surgeon who comes all the way from Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Melissa graduated from the University of Guelph in 2014 with a Bachelor of Science degree and then moved to Edinburgh to attend The University of Edinburgh's Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies and graduated in 2019. Melissa spent 5 years in a small animal practice outside of Edinburgh and had the opportunity of seeing a wide variety of companion and exotic animal routine and emergent cases. Melissa then joined the Alora Vets team in June 2024 and works closely with Rebecca the Clinical Director to lead a wonderfully kind and skilled team.

Melissa has a passion for dentistry, and is in the process of completing her post-graduate certificate in dentistry and oral surgery (PGCert). Melissa also loves general surgery and thoroughly enjoys performing advanced procedures like laparoscopic (keyhole) spays. She is eager to provide gold-standard care to all of her furry, feathery, and scaley patients, and particularly enjoys teaching junior vets and veterinary students.

Melissa enjoys spending her time off with her husband Craig and two rescue dogs, Eevee (from Romania) and Nicky (from Nicaragua). Melissa is an avid crafter and loves cross stitching, you can find her work on Instagram and Facebook by searching Stitching Vet.
